The flight begins long before take-off.
Paragliding and hang gliding are a direct conversation between the pilot, the terrain and the atmosphere. Preparation means assessing weather, terrain, airspace and personal readiness.
Shared flying days create space to exchange observations and experience. The essential club culture stays the same: sometimes the right decision is to fly, and sometimes it is to wait.

A practical workspace for paragliding and hang-gliding days: a structured pre-flight check, three quick estimates and field reminders. Use it to organise a briefing — never as a clearance to fly.

Follow the sequence immediately before launch. Tick an item only after physically checking it; after any interruption, start again from item one.

Wind relative to launch
Set wind speed and the angle between wind direction and the launch axis. 0° is straight in; 180° is straight tailwind.

Observe the whole system
Terrain
Identify compression zones, rotors, venturi effects, lee slopes and landing approaches before committing to launch.
Equipment
Use the inspection sequence in the manufacturer documentation. After interruption or relocation, restart the check from the beginning.
Margin
Choose limits before take-off. Preserve height, landing alternatives and time; do not spend all three at once.
Communication
Share the plan, likely landing area and return time. Make the radio and emergency process clear before the group separates.
Debrief
Record the forecast, actual conditions and decisions. The difference between expectation and reality is valuable training data.
